Designed to expand performance opportunities and strengthen connections among institutions, the ensemble provides students with the chance to rehearse and perform high-quality literature in a supportive, high-level musical environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#3e5ba9\">This unique ensemble is assembled on a biennial basis with its members selected through a rigorous audition process. Highly respected and accomplished wind band conductors are selected to provide students with an engaging and immensely artistic rehearsal process that culminates in a public performance during the Kansas Music Educators Association State Convention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#3e5ba9\">By uniting students from multiple campuses, the Kansas Intercollegiate Band celebrates the talent and collaborative spirit of Kansas college and university band programs while creating an inspiring and memorable ensemble experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Kansas College and University Students,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On behalf of the Kansas Bandmasters Association, I am excited to extend a warm welcome to all of you who are considering auditioning for the Kansas Intercollegiate Band. This prestigious ensemble, comprised of the finest collegiate musicians from across the state, is a hallmark of the Kansas Music Educators Association\u2019s In-Service Workshop.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kansas Intercollegiate Band is an auditioned group, selected from recorded auditions submitted online and adjudicated by Kansas college and university professors. This ensemble not only presents an opportunity for you to perform at the KMEA In-Service Workshop but also offers a platform for growth, learning, and networking with other musicians.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rehearsals for this year\u2019s intercollegiate band occur during the Kansas Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop on&nbsp;<strong>February 27, 2026&nbsp;<\/strong>with the performance that same evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I look forward to seeing the extraordinary talent that will comprise the 2026 Kansas Intercollegiate Band.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kind regards,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Shawn M. Under her artistic leadership, the University Concert Band was invited to perform at the College Band Directors Association North-Central Division Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, Snyder served as the Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where she conducted the \u201cMaverick\u201d Marching Band, conducted the Concert Band, served as Associate Conductor of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and taught courses in conducting, music education, and brass methods. While in Omaha, Snyder also served as Music Director for the Nebraska Wind Symphony, which, under her direction, was invited to perform at the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association annual conference. Prior to teaching at the collegiate level, Snyder taught high school and middle school band and orchestra in the Michigan public schools, the last four years of which she served as Director of Bands at Ypsilanti High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Snyder is an active guest conductor and clinician, conducting and teaching both nationally and internationally. In 2025, she conducted the Banda Symph\u00f3nica de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires and led a conducting masterclass with the Argentine Air Force Band. She has presented at national and international conferences including the Midwest Clinic, World Association of Symphonic Band Ensembles, College Band Directors National Association, College Music Society, and Women Band Directors International. In 2024 she was the Band Headliner at the WMEA annual music conference in Yakima, Washington. Her current projects include improvisation in the large concert ensemble, conducting pedagogy, band music of South and Central America, and promoting equity of women and BIPOC composers and conductors. She is a past president of Women Band Directors International and a Conn-Selmer clinician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snyder is published in Music Educators Journal, The Instrumentalist, several volumes of Teaching Music Through Performance in Band, School Band &amp; Orchestra Magazine, The Woman Conductor, and Association of Concert Bands Journal. Her chapter \u201cTrailblazers: Five Pioneering Female Band Directors Recount Their Journeys Over the Last 50 Years\u201d in the book The Horizon Leans Forward\u2026Stories of Courage, Strength, and Triumph of Underrepresented Communities in the Wind Band Field was published in December 2020. She received the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre &amp; Dance DEI Breaking Ground Award, Tau Beta Sigma\u2019s Paula Crider Award, Women Band Directors International\u2019s Silver Baton Award, National Band Association\u2019s Citation of Merit, and earned 2nd Place in the 2018 American Prize in Conducting, Band\/Wind Ensemble Division Competition.
